On the occasion of the 13th annual National Healthy Schools Day, AFT President Randi Weingarten today observed that "our children deserve the best possible learning environments to gain the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 21st-century economy. Crumbling school buildings filled with environmental hazards won't cut it."

AFT Awards Grants for Connecticut, New York Teachers to Have Voice on Standards

Washington -- The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) announced today it has awarded AFT Innovation Fund grants for teachers in Connecticut and New York to offer solutions to problems with their state's rollout of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) and AFT Connecticut were awarded the grants in a competition that was announced in July at the AFT convention. 
 

Donna Brazile Announces "Democrats for Public Education" at AFT Convention

Los Angeles - Addressing more than 3,500 members of the AFT at its national convention, Democratic strategist Donna Brazile announced the formation of a new group that she will co-chair called Democrats for Public Education, which will focus on uniting the vast majority of Democrats, who believe in the promise of public education.
