Winning a Contract that Shows "What is Possible"

Reflecting Connecticut's improved fiscal health, union members have over the past three months made solid progress in negotiations with their employers. A local affiliate whose leadership overcame their community's slow economic recovery to secure significant monetary improvements is being spotlighted in our latest collective bargaining report. By demonstrating a shared commitment to vital and valued health services, they moved their administrators to invest in both the current and future workforce.

"U & I in Union:" Organizing the Strength to "Survive"

Fight for a Fair State Budget Moves Forward

Following intense pressure to reject a damaging state budget narrowly adopted by lawmakers two weeks earlier, the governor on Thursday vetoed the toxic fiscal package produced by Republican legislative leadership. The action came after unions joined advocates for demonstrations and speak-outs across the state demanding better choices than failed and painful austerity policies. Spotlight: Classroom Paraprofessionals

Leaders from several AFT Connecticut-affiliated unions representing hard-working school paraeducators in districts across the state this weekend are joining with their colleagues from throughout the country. They gathered in Las Vegas for our national union's professional issues conference for paras and school-related personnel (PSRP), which this year coincides with national Paraprofessional Appreciation Day on April 2.

Our Members Earn National Honors

Four of our state's public schools -- including two where AFT Connecticut members work -- have been designated by the U.S. Department of Education as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2014. We offer our heartiest congratulations to all the educators and support personnel in Norwalk’s Thomas Jefferson Magnet School and Portland's Middle School for earning this extraordinary honor.
