Lifting Up Labor Leaders and Helping Students Soar

More than 100 delegates representing members of AFT Connecticut's affiliated local unions came together in-person for the first time since 2019 for our state federation’s convention. Capping the June 4 event was a luncheon where labor activists who over the previous 12 months lived up to the event's theme of "better days ahead" were recognized. Annual scholarships aimed at helping members and their families beat the rising cost of higher education were also announced.

Our 2019 Convention: "Still Here and Still Growing"

Delegates representing the highest decision-making body in AFT Connecticut last month gathered to debate and determine the direction of our state federation for the next two years. Material provided at our annual convention is now available for all members, including officers' annual reports, the latest completed financial audit and recipients of the scholarships, citations and awards presented.

Benefits to Tackle the High Cost of Higher Ed

Our national union helps members and their families with grants to support professional development, achieve a post-secondary education or participate in graduate-level learning. When the Robert G. Porter Scholars Program winners were last July announced at the 2016 AFT Convention, a local teacher from Connecticut was among those honored. She was awarded $1,000.00 to assist with her continuing education —  and now encourages her colleagues to apply by the March 31 deadline for this year's benefit.
