Faculty and support staff at several public and private higher education institutions across Connecticut are members of AFT Connecticut-affiliated unions. These educators hold avariety of positions in their institutions, ranging from full-time, part-time or adjunct faculty to research, clerical, administrative, security staff and more. Though each may have unique concerns and needs, they share goals of promoting academic and institutional excellence and securing the rights and respect they deserve as higher education professionals.

CSCU Faculty and Professional Unions Issue a Statement of Unity Opposing Consolidation Efforts

HARTFORD – The faculty and professional unions that comprise the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities (CSCU) released a joint statement today in opposition to the Board of Regents’ proposal to consolidate the 12 independently accredited community colleges.

The vote tallies in the 2019 General Election say it all; 23 members of AFT Connecticut-affiliated local unions across the state won their respective races for municipal office. There is no debating the value of backing our sisters and brothers when they step up to show their communities that “labor is your neighbor.” Importantly, it also points to the path for restoring working peoples' political power as nationally important elections in 2020 draw near.

Recovery from the Great Recession of 2008 has been prolonged and uneven for all working people in America, particularly those employed by private, non-profit organizations. Members of AFT Connecticut-affiliated locals have over the past decade in contrast progressed more rapidly and benefited more fully from the improved economy. We're highlighting two recent collective bargaining wins that effectively demonstrate "the union difference" for this sector's otherwise vulnerable workforce.
